Courage Campaign Calls on CA Republicans to Break with Trump Over DACA Program
Statement from Eddie Kurtz, Executive Director of the California-based Courage Campaign:
“Donald Trump’s decision to eliminate legal status for more than 800,000 undocumented, young Americans living and working in the United States is one of the cruelest and most unjust by a President in modern American history. It fits squarely within his well documented history of racist statements and actions, such as calling Mexican migrants rapists, defending neo-Nazis, intensifying immigration raids that terrorize Latinx communities, and pardoning known racist and criminal Sheriff Joe Arpaio.”
“Make no mistake, the people granted legal status under DACA are important members of our communities — they are our friends, relatives, colleagues, and neighbors, they contribute to our communities and our economy every day. Here in California, we are proud that one in every four DREAMers calls our state home – and we will continue to fight to keep it that way.
“The question now for California Republican members of the House is: do you stand with Trump and his outrageous, cruel and bigoted actions, or do you stand with the people of California, who believe that DREAMers and all immigrants are an important part of our society and economy?
“Now is your moment of truth.“
