Courage Campaign on Rep. Darrell Issa’s Retirement Announcement

Group Says Issa’s Retirement is a Clear Indication That Democrats Are Building Momentum, Ready to Retake the House, Starting in California

Statement from Eddie Kurtz, executive director of the California-based Courage Campaign, on reports that Rep. Darrell Issa will announce his retirement from Congress at the end of his term:

“Congressman Issa, the most vulnerable Republican representative in the nation, knows that if he ran for re-election in 2018, he would lose. Like Congressman Royce earlier this week, Issa’s announcement is a clear indication that Republicans know that Democrats are gaining momentum and are ready to retake the House in 2018 in a wave election. Districts in California like Issa’s – where Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump – will start the wave that will roll across the country.

“From his shameful efforts to kick Dreamers out of the country, to slashing taxes on the top one percent at the expense of working Californians, voters in California’s 49th district are disgusted by Republicans’ continued support for Donald Trump and his dangerous, immoral agenda and are ready for a change.

“Our message to all remaining members of California’s Republican Congressional delegation is simple: your days are numbered, and come November, it will be time to find a new line of work.”
