6 states — including Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Texas — think they are above the law of the land and are refusing to allow same-sex married couples in the National Guard to register for spousal benefits despite a federal mandate. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered “immediate action” for these states to comply with the law, but so far they are not backing down. He’s on our side, but now we need to make him finish the job.
