Courage Campaign Praises Democratic Lawmakers As California Officials Reach Budget Deal
Earlier today, Governor Jerry Brown and California lawmakers reached a budget deal that expanded on the Governor’s proposed budget by providing additional funds for childcare and preschool programs. Dr. Paul Song, executive chairman of the California-based Courage Campaign issued the following statement in reaction to the announcement:
“Our lawmakers in Sacramento deserve praise for pushing Governor Brown to include additional funds for childcare, preschool, and implementation of immigration reform in the State’s 2015 budget. We are excited to see that the budget continues the trend of making investments in our schools and in our State’s most economically vulnerable, like the earned income tax credit.
But Governor Brown could do much more for working Californians by recognizing the wisdom of his allies in the Legislature and pushing for a bolder budget that makes much-needed investments in our people, like restoring the devastating cuts to the Health and Human Services budget and ending the outrageous, immoral maximum family grant policy.
California needs a budget that provides opportunity for all Californians to flourish and contribute to our great state, and while this budget is a step in the right direction – there is still a lot more that needs to be done.”
