California’s Largest Advocacy Organization Hails Progressive Endorsement Wins in 2024 General Election

Courage California Celebrates Progressive Candidate and Ballot Measure Endorsements.

Los Angeles — In response to the November 5, 2024, General Election results, Courage California celebrates the wins of its endorsed progressive candidates while expressing concerns over the results of several key ballot measures. Courage California released the following statement:

“Courage California is proud to have endorsed candidates and ballot measures that reflected progressive and inclusive values. The election results defy simple explanations and underscore the breadth and diversity of our state’s electorate,” said Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California. “On the one hand, we elected many progressive state leaders with deep connections to their local communities, reached gender parity in the state legislature, enshrined marriage equality, and supported investments in our schools and on climate. However, we also lost ground with the defeat of economic justice measures and critical public safety reforms and leaders. The state saw the outsized influence of special interest money in key races.”

Of Courage California’s 18 endorsed candidates featuring progressive leaders across the state, 9 candidates won, and 9 candidates lost.

“Even in the races that we lost – many within a few percentage points – it’s clear there is a demand for progressive policies to provide economic relief, protect and expand rights for targeted and vulnerable people, and hold corporations and other powerful actors accountable for their impact in our neighborhoods,” said Kao.
