After Months of Coalition Building and Anti-recall Campaigning, Courage California Presses State Leaders to Work Towards a Future of Bold Progress.
Los Angeles — In response to the results of the 2021 Gubernatorial Recall Election held yesterday, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, Courage California releases the following statement:
“Courage California extends our congratulations to Governor Gavin Newsom for defeating this wasteful and frivolous recall election and we look forward to working with him and his administration on a bold and progressive agenda to ensure an equitable COVID recovery, fight climate change, and expand protections for our most vulnerable community members. As we approach the 2022 General Election, it is critical that we join forces and make advancements on our shared priorities, and give Californian’s what they want, voted for, and deserve — progress,” said Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California.
“Courage California, along with a coalition of progressive community groups, engaged and turned out millions of voters against the recall because we care deeply about the future of California and were not going to standby and allow a Republican-led blatant, harmful, and strategic power grab. So we organized, texted, hosted events, issued public statements, ran digital ads, conducted polling, and supported GOTV efforts to make sure our communities saw themselves in this election and voted with so much at stake.
“I applaud California voters today, this is your win. Together, we showed up and overwhelmingly rejected this recall,” said Kao. “But now it’s time to look forward and continue to hold our elected officials accountable as we work towards a just and equitable future for all Californians.”
