Courage Campaign: “If It Was the 1970s, Nunes Would be More Interested in Investigating Deep Throat Than Getting to the Bottom of Watergate”

WASHINGTON, DC — This morning, the House Intelligence Committee held a much-anticipated hearing on the committee’s ongoing investigation into alleged Russian interference during the presidential race, whether the Trump administration had any ties to Moscow during that time, and President Trump’s bombshell allegations that his predecessor wiretapped Trump Tower.

During the committee meeting, Director Comey confirmed that the FBI has been investigating Russian meddling in the presidential election, including possible links between the Trump campaign and Moscow since mid-July.  Comey refuted President Trump’s claim that former President Barack Obama had Trump Tower wiretapped. Republicans on the committee also expressed concern over the leaks of classified information.

Eddie Kurtz, executive director of the California-based Courage Campaign issued the following statement:

“It is clear that if this was the 1970s, Congressman Nunes would be more interested in investigating Deep Throat than getting to the bottom of Watergate. His performance today was shameful and a clear example that he is more interested in protecting Trump than getting to the bottom of Russia’s interference in our election.

“Congressman Nunes has once again demonstrated that he can’t be an impartial investigator of potential links between the Trump campaign and Russia. That’s why nearly 60,000 Courage Campaign members have signed a petition calling on him to resign his role immediately.”
