Courage Campaign: Nunes’ Nakedly Political Actions Make Him Wholly Unqualified to Continue as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee

Yesterday, Rep. Devin Nunes claimed to have learned that the United States intelligence community legally and incidentally collected information on members of the Trump transition team, then “widely disseminated” the information internally. He made his public claims and even briefed President Trump without sharing the information with Adam Schiff, the Democratic ranking member on the committee. At the end of the day Wednesday, Nunes was still the only committee member to have seen the intelligence in question.

Eddie Kurtz, Executive Director of the California-based Courage Campaign, issued the following statement:

“Congressman Nunes’ actions over the last 24 hours have proven one thing conclusively: he is a political hack interested in protecting Donald Trump, not a fair-minded congressional investigator. His nakedly political and unprecedented actions yesterday – the sole purpose of which was to try to provide political cover a Trump Administration currently under a FBI criminal investigation – make him wholly unqualified to continue as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.  In the name of the security of our country, Congressman Nunes must immediately resign as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.”
