Courage Campaign on What’s Next for Marriage in California
Statement of Rick Jacobs, founder and chair of the CourageCampaign.org, a leading California-based progressive organization, on today’s Supreme Court rulings and what’s next for same-sex marriage in California:
“Today’s actions by the Supreme Court are a sweeping victory for loving couples who have waited five long years for the restoration of marriage. We applaud the work of Governor Brown and Attorney General Harris for not only refusing to defend this unconstitutional and discriminatory law — actions which helped lead to today’s decision — but for announcing they will move swiftly to allow marriages to begin as soon as the stay by United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit is lifted.
If any public official stands in the way now, they do so in contempt of law and the people of our great state. It is long past time for marriage equality to come to the largest state in the country. We could not be more thrilled with the outcome of today’s rulings and look forward to standing side-by-side with our friends, loved ones and colleagues as they wed in our state in the very near future.”
*** Rick Jacobs is available to discuss the legal and political ramifications of today’s rulings. To schedule an interview contact Doug Gordon at (202)-494-5141 or by email at doug@fitzgibbonmedia.com or Brett Abrams at (516)-841-1105 or by email at brett@fitzgibbonmedia.com ***
