Courage Campaign Praises Rep. Waxman for Long Career As a Champion of the American People
Upon hearing the news that Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D) of California was retiring after 20-terms in the House of Representatives, Dr. Paul Song, executive chairman of the California-based Courage Campaign and a constituent of Rep. Waxman, issued the following statement praising Waxman for a long career of being a champion of the American people:
“Throughout Rep. Henry Waxman’s forty-year career in the House of Representatives, the Congressman has served as a steady and clear example of the good that government can do for the people it serves. Whether it was writing some of the nation’s first clean air laws, to prosecuting the tobacco industry for deceptive practices, or helping to write and pass the Affordable Care Act, no one in California or anywhere in the country could doubt Rep. Waxman’s commitment to our country’s values, or to the best interests of the American people. His presence in the House of Representatives will be surely missed.
As Waxman notes upon his retirement from Congress, the extremist, obstructionism and misplaced priorities of the Republican Party has made governing impossible. As the wheels of progress and government grind to a halt under the influence of an insane right-wing minority, Courage Campaign will continue to fight to advance the same progressive change that defined Rep. Waxman’s 20-term career in Congress.”
