Courage Campaign: Question For “California 7” is Now Clear; Do You Stand With Trump And Tax Cuts For Millionaires Or Do You Stand With Your Constituents?

Group Warns That Republicans Are About To Sell Out California Families to Finance Massive Tax Cuts for Millionaires and Billionaires and Corporations

Today, Republicans in Congress rolled out their tax bill which will give massive tax cuts  to millionaires and billionaires and the largest corporations in this country while raising taxes on many California families

In reaction to the legislation, Eddie Kurtz, executive director of the California-based Courage Campaign, issued the following statement, slamming the “California 7” —  California Republicans in Congressional districts carried by Hillary Clinton last year:

“The question for the ‘California 7’ is now clear and very simple, do you stand with Trump and tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires and the largest corporations in American or do you stand with your constituents?  Courage Campaign, and voters in each of these districts, will be watching — carefully. California Republicans  now have to ask themselves are they so eager to give massive tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires, that they are willing to finance those tax cuts on the backs of their own constituents — resulting in  taxes going up for many middle class California families.

“While the California 7 — Dana Rohrabacher, Darrell Issa, Jeff Denham, David Valadao, Ed Royce, Mimi Walters and Steve Knight — have already shown they are willing to sell out their constituents to give political cover to President Trump, raising taxes on middle class families to give massive tax cuts to the rich would be shameless and dangerous for the financial stability of California families.

“Last week, we saw Republicans in New York, New Jersey and other high tax states opposed the GOP’s plan to raise taxes on their constituents. But California’s delegation has been notably silent on benefits like the state and local tax deduction, that recognize the priorities that California voters have for their communities.

“California’s Congressional Republican delegation should be ashamed for prioritizing millionaires and billionaires over their constituents, and we’ll make sure that come next November, everyone in their district knows that they supported a tax increase on hard-working Californians to finance tax cuts for their super wealthy donors.”
