Group Slams California GOP Over Underhanded Tactics to Prevent CA Residents from Signing Up for Affordable Health Care
Fake Health Care Website Uses Taxpayer Dollars To Deceive Voters and Sick Californians
CALIFORNIA — As more and more people around the country begin to sign up for insurance as provided by the Affordable Care Act, California opponents of President’s health care initiative — including the California State Republican Party — are using a manipulative new website to lure people away from the state’s health care exchange — CoveredCA.com — and to a fake website designed to discredit the law by highlighting its costs and penalties rather than its potential benefits.
“It’s outrageous that our elected officials in California are using taxpayer dollars to intentionally mislead their constituents and divert them from CoveredCA.com. Our state’s website is a model for the nation and singlehandedly signing up more Americans for quality health coverage than all the other states combined, yet Republicans in Sacramento have wasted taxpayer dollars building a fake website in an attempt to sow confusion and fear, in a futile attempt to discredit the law,” explained Dr. Paul Song, executive chairman of the California-based Courage Campaign and a practicing oncologist, in response to the GOP’s desperate and underhanded tactics. “Republicans in California should be ashamed — unable to win on their ideas, the GOP’s newest tactics is to lie to voters and prevent sick people from getting the care they need. These pathetic, politically motivated attempts to keep Californians from enjoying quality healthcare must end, and Courage Campaign will be leading the way to hold the GOP responsible.”
In California, numerous fake insurance websites have sprung aiming to steer consumers away from legitimate enrollment services. Just a couple of weeks ago California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris shut down 10 bogus insurance sites, the California GOP’s website was not one of them.
