Statement by Dr. Paul Song, executive chairman of the California-based CourageCampaign.org, on the prison deal:

“Our voices have been heard. Today’s announcement of a compromise prison plan is a testament to the power of California voters who after passing Prop 30, refused to simply watch as the Governor squandered our tax dollars. Courage Campaign members and our coalition partners stood up to the most powerful politicians in the state and made it clear that endless expansion of prison capacity for the benefit of private corporations has no place in California. We will continue to fight for a saner, more fiscally responsible approach to both sentencing and incarceration to create a justice system worthy of our great state.”
