Earlier today, as South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signed historic legislation to remove the confederate flag from the State House grounds, Republicans in the US House of Representatives, led by California Rep. Ken Calvert, moved to defeat amendments that would have restricted the display of the confederate flag symbol on federal grounds, such as national parks and veteran cemeteries.
