In Light Of Recent Events, Courage Campaign Doubles Down on Support For Kaepernick; Group To Advertise Support On New Bay Bridge Billboard
The Digital Billboard Will Feature a Photo of Kaepernick, Reading, “Patriotism.”
CALIFORNIA — In light of police shootings this week in North Carolina and Oklahoma, Courage Campaign announced today that it will be doubling down on its campaign to publicly support 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s protest of police violence against black people. Starting next week, a new digital billboard commissioned by California-based Courage Campaign will go up on the Bay Bridge in support of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s ongoing protest in which he takes a knee during the playing of the national anthem. The billboard will be viewable to traffic exiting the Bay Bridge onto the I-80 corridor in Oakland, and will feature a photo of Kaepernick, reading, “Patriotism.”

Since he began his protest during preseason games, Kaepernick’s protest has spread, inspiring athletes from the NFL to high schools across America. The protest has also won support from high profile figures including Steph Curry, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, military veterans, and President Obama.

“Keith Scott. Tyre King. Terence Crutcher. The police murders of these three unarmed black men just this week prove the necessity of Colin Kaepernick’s protest,” said Eddie Kurtz, Executive Director of Courage Campaign. “By calling America to be its best self, by asking us to live up to our values even though it’s unpopular, Kaepernick and those emulating him are showing us the true meaning of patriotism.”
“Plain and simple – Black Lives Matter. Courage Campaign’s more than 1.3 million members in California and around the country stand with Kaepernick in his protest and will continue to fight against racism and police violence towards black people in the United States,” added Kurtz.
Last week, over 48,000 people signed on with Courage Campaign to thank Kaepernick for standing up for black lives and against the oppression of people of color.
