American Bridge and Courage Campaign Partner to
Launch “Mitt Gets Worse”
Rapid Response Campaign to Highlight Romney’s Anti-LGBT Agenda
WASHINGTON — Today, American Bridge 21st Century and Courage Campaign Super PAC partnered to launch Mitt Gets Worse, a new oral history project and rapid response campaign to educate voters about Mitt Romney’s extreme anti-LGBT agenda.
Romney has earned a reputation as a flip-flopper — changing his positions in whatever direction advances his career. But when it comes to LGBT issues, there’s one thing you can always count on: Mitt Gets Worse.
Year after year, Mitt has moved further and further toward the extreme right. The Mitt Gets Worse campaign is an oral history of Mitt Romney’s efforts to diminish the rights and the freedoms of LGBT Americans, told by supporters, activists, and LGBT advocates that have personally been impacted by Mitt’s anti-equality agenda.
Over the next few weeks, the campaign will be releasing first person accounts of LGBT activists and organizers who have played key roles in this fight.
The first video, released today by the campaign, is from Jennifer Chrisler, Executive Director of the Family Equality Council, which represents more than a million LGBT parents and the children they are raising. Together with her partner Cheryl, Jennifer played a crucial role in securing the freedom to marry in Massachusetts. They went toe-to-toe with Mitt, and they continue to fight to preserve protections for same-sex parents and their families.

“Last week at the NAACP convention, Mitt Romney promised to represent ‘all Americans of every race, creed and sexual orientation.’ It’s hard to believe that when he doesn’t support our freedom to marry, serve in the military, or even hold a job without fear of being fired because of who we love. The fact of the matter is, under Mitt, for those of us who believe in equality, it will get worse,” said Courage Campaign founder Rick Jacobs.
“The march towards equality in America’s civil rights history has been long and difficult, but we have always moved in the right direction,” said David Brock, founder and chairman of American Bridge. “The majority of Americans don’t want to reverse that trend, which is why they need to know that on LGBT issues, under Mitt Romney it will get worse.
