Thousands Demand Republicans Stop Wasting Taxpayer Money to Mislead Voters, and Take Down the Intentionally Misleading Website Immediately

CALIFORNIA — In a new petition thousands are joining with Eddie Kurtz and the California-based progressive group CourageCampaign.org, in demanding that the California Republican Party take down its sham Obamacare site (CoveringHealthcareCA.com) immediately. The GOP must stop using taxpayer dollars to intentionally mislead their constituents, sow fear and confusion, and divert Californians away from CoveredCA.com — California’s health insurance exchange under Obamacare. In less than 24 hours since launching, the petition has been signed by more than 24,000 California residents.

“They’ve made it sound more professional, but this is just ‘death panels’ by another name. The GOP is intentionally misinterpreting the law, promoting misleading or outright false information and avoiding basic facts and benefits,” explained Eddie Kurtz, political director for CourageCampaign.org and an Oakland resident.  “After a long day, a hardworking Californian gets home, looks through his mail, and sees this official mailer, paid for by his tax dollars. He needs information on the Affordable Care Act, but when he goes to the site, he runs into this maze of political spin. Republicans have to stop playing politics with people’s lives. The ACA is settled law now, and by continuing to play these political games, they’re simply preventing their own constituents from accessing healthcare. It’s wrong, and it must stop.”

“California Republicans have promoted the fake site with tens of thousands of taxpayer-funded mailers to constituents. How many taxpayer dollars have been wasted on this site and the mailings? We deserve an answer,” added Kurtz.
