In November, Los Angeles voters overwhelmingly elected leading criminal justice reformer George Gascón as our new District Attorney. On his first day in office, Gascón launched an ambitious set of criminal justice reforms based on research that showed which prosecution practices were effective and which were just racist.
But now, LA police, district attorneys from other counties, and law enforcement unions and special interests — who have long upheld our white supremacist-based systems of law and order — are trying to reject the will of the voters and hold on to their power by fighting against Gascon’s reforms.
