Courageous Resistance Holds “Search Party” Rallies and Vigils as California Representatives Avoid Recess Town Halls

CALIFORNIA — On Thursday, February 23rd, constituents across California will hold candlelight vigils in the neighborhoods of  Congressional representatives asking “Have you seen my Congressperson.”  The events, part of the Courageous Resistance of the California-based Courage Campaign, and joined by members of SEIU’s #FightForCA campaign, highlight how GOP members of Congress have refused to conduct local town hall meetings during the Congressional recess this week.

Specifically, local residents are calling out Rep. David Valadao (CA-21), Rep. Jeff Denham (CA-10), Rep. Devin Nunes (CA-22),  Rep. Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (CA-48), Rep. Ed Royce (CA-39) and Rep. Steve Knight (CA-25) for failing to meet with them and addressing constituent concerns of safeguarding health care coverage  and protecting immigrant families.

“With Congress poised to take action on issues that literally have life-and-death consequences — including access to affordable healthcare and the protection of undocumented Americans from unjust detention and family destruction — it is frankly pathetic that California Republicans are too afraid to meet with their constituents and discuss their concerns,” explained Eddie Kurtz, executive director of the California-based Courage Campaign.  “If our democratically elected representatives don’t have the guts to stand face to face with their constituents and explain their decisions — then they shouldn’t be voting to destroy our access to affordable health care or launch a war against against our immigrant communities.”
