Members of Courage Campaign, Health Access, Indivisible45, and the Orange County Labor Federation Lead Press Conference and March, Demanding Walters Reject the GOP Tax Bill
Irvine, CA –This Tuesday, December 19th, local activists and members of the California-based Courage Campaign, Health Access, Indivisible45, and the Orange County Labor Federation will rally outside of Rep. Mimi Walters’ (R-45) Irvine office, calling on her to vote against the impending GOP tax legislation, which experts estimate will raise taxes by an average of almost $7,000 on each of her constituents, including on many low and middle income people. Following the press conference and rally outside of Walters’ office, the coalition will march across the street to the strip mall.

A Quinnipac poll shows that less than one-third of Americans approve of the Republican House and Senate compromise tax plan. The measure would push to further limit the state and local tax deduction and mortgage interest deduction, leave 13 million people without health insurance, and cut Medicaid and Medicare–all while making massive tax breaks for the rich and Wall Street corporations.
“It’s past time we call the impending tax ‘reform’ legislation what it really is: the GOP tax scam. This deeply immoral bill is designed to systematically punish Californians and the American people in order to enrich the bank accounts of corporations and the top one percent,” said Eddie Kurtz, Executive Director of Courage Campaign. “With the bill likely headed back for a vote next week, Courage Campaign is calling out Rep. Mimi Walters for supporting this unconscionable legislation at the expense of her own constituents. Talk about a sell-out.”
