Courage Campaign Calls for Rep. Nunes Resignation As Chair of House Intelligence Committee Arguing that the American People Deserve Elected Officials Who Put Country Ahead of Party
CALIFORNIA — Following the resignation of Michael Flynn as national security advisor, the California-based Courage Campaign is demanding the immediate resignation of Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Fresno) as the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, citing Nunes’ refusal to investigate Flynn’s ties to Russia, Flynn’s lies to US authorities including the Vice President of the United States, and the potential that there has been further wrongdoing on the part of the Trump administration.
Members of Courage Campaign’s Courageous Resistance in-district action team, and constituents of Rep. Nunes, will rally outside Rep. Devin Nunes’ district office in Clovis, CA at 3:30pm PT to demand his resignation from the House Intelligence Committee.
Where: 264 Clovis Avenue, Suite 206. Clovis, CA 93612
When: 3:30pm PT Meeting and Delivery, Gathering to Follow
Just hours ahead of Flynn’s resignation, Nunes told Bloomberg’s Steven Dennis that there was no problem with Flynn, and that it was just the President’s enemies making trouble, explaining “It seems like there’s a lot of nothing here.” Nunes, who leads the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which is conducting a review of Russian activities to influence the election, even went so far as to blame the FBI and argue in defense of Flynn’s illegal phone calls to the Russian Ambassador.
In reaction to the news, Eddie Kurtz, executive director of the California-based Courage Campaign issued the following statement:
“Whether Rep. Devin Nunes didn’t know that Michael Flynn posed a major national security risk as a potential target of Russian blackmail, or sought to cover it up for partisan political gain — it’s clear that Nunes has failed in his responsibilities to protect the American people and should resign as the chair of the House Intelligence Committee effective immediately.
“National security and the intelligence that protects the American people should never be subject to political partisanship. Nunes’ failure to take the allegations against Flynn seriously is proof positive that Nunes is either incapable or unwilling to do his job — and that is unacceptable.
“With so much at stake, we need a Congress that will hold the members of the Trump Administration accountable when they undermine and risk the security of the American people. Nunes has proven that he is not up to the task.”
