Protest Outside SD Lincoln Club Over Racist Smear Attack in Mayoral Race
Thousands Outraged at Racist Mailer Sent by Lincoln Club
SAN DIEGO – Local San Diego residents and ACCE PAC leaders will be joined by national Latino organization Presente.org and California online progressive group CourageCampaign.org in presenting thousands of petition signatures at the headquarters of the conservative Lincoln Club. The petition signatures are in protest of the use of campaign tactics peddling dog-whistle racism in the San Diego Mayoral race.
With only days left until San Diego votes on a new mayor, the contest recently took a disturbing turn when the conservative political group mailed voters a picture of Latino candidate David Alvarez that made him resemble a menacing gang member.
Presente.org and Courage Campaign launched online efforts calling for mass rejection of the racist mailer. Tuesday’s delivery event will call on the Lincoln Club to stop using racist stereotypes that denigrate the entire Latino community and have no place in San Diego politics.
