115k Join Groups to Demand Whole Foods CEO John Mackey Stop Spreading Misinformation About the Affordable Care Act
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – On Wednesday, March 12th, members of the California-based CourageCampaign.org joined by members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Jobs for Justice, and the Campaign for a Healthy CA, will rally at Whole Foods in San Francisco. The coalition will educate shoppers about Whole Foods CEO John Mackey’s repeated statements spreading misinformation about the Affordable Care Act and deliver a petition featuring more than 115,000 signatures urging him to stop.

The protesters will have audio footage of one of Mackey’s most outrageous comments to show shoppers and store managers.

“We will not allow employers like Mackey to take us backwards. Campaign for a Healthy California (CHC) is committed to finishing the job of health reform and making it a human right for all”, said Martha Kuhl, registered nurse at Children’s Hospital in Oakland and Executive Committee member of Campaign for a Healthy California.
The action comes after the Whole Foods CEO went on Fox News to argue that the expansion of health insurance coverage to millions of Americans was equivalent to a “government takeover” of the healthcare system. This followed his comments earlier in the year comparing Obamacare to “fascism.” Though he apologized for his word choice in the “fascism” comment, he did not disavow the underlying point, which is fundamentally false. More than 115,000 people have signed the petition since Mackey’s comments in December.
