Courage Campaign Reacts to Apple CEO Tim Cook’s Public Announcement That He Is Gay

Statement from Dr. Paul Song, executive chairman of the California-based Courage Campaign, on Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly announcing that he is gay:

“We applaud Apple CEO Tim Cook for being open and honest with the American public about his private life and sexuality.  Cook’s announcement reaffirms that anyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, should be able to openly and successfully lead one of America’s biggest companies.  But even as the Apple CEO’s announcement proves that LGBT Americans can lead in some of America’s top corporations – gay people across the US continue to face discrimination in the workplace and in 29 states LGBT workers can still be fired just for their sexual orientation.  As we all reflect on Tim Cook’s announcement, it is important to remember that theRepublican Party is still blocking the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) that would protect the thousands of LGBT workers who still face discrimination in the workplace everyday.”
